How to Find Your Personal style in 2020...

11 Jan 2020

Hello everyone,

This is one blog post I always love to write as I always love to help people with fashion tips and sharing with you my experiences with my own fashion experiences across the years. Before I started blogging and Instagramming, I used to always wear what I saw my friends wearing, and was worried to step out of my comfort zone. It was quite funny looking back to see all of my friends and myself wearing the exact same thing. I don't know if anyone else can relate but the general fashion trend bak then was topshop joni jeans, converse and a leather black leather jacket. And now, my personal style could not be more different.

Of course in this time I have gone from a young teenager to nearly a 23 year old and I can not quite believe it. Over the years i have grown so much more confidence with what I chose to wear and almost every outfit I put together I do not worry about what other people will think of me. I think so many people worry so much about what other people think and I think if truth be told, it is a very hard obstacle to over come. So I thought i would share with you my tips on how i have grown and developed my own personal style throughout the past couple of years.

1. Get Inspired

This is quite possibly the most important thing you can do to start your personal style journey. If it weren't for me following thousands of fashion instagram accounts and blogs, there is no chance I would be able to style half the clothes in my wardrobe. I feel like often fashion influencers are seen as a negative influence, as often they promote fast fashion. However if it weren't for me seeing endless amounts of outfits posts on Instagram, I would have probably thrown a lot of my clothes away because I did not know what do with them or how to style them. scrolling through hundreds of outfit ideas always has given me inspiration of what to do with the existing clothes in my wardrobe. Instead of buying the exact item in the photo, it would inspire me to look in my wardrobe for what I already had and could make work. So maybe consider saving some bookmarks on Instagram or creating a outfit inspiration page on Pinterest.

Here is mine for an example..

2. What are you working with?

Take a day out of your weekend to have a thorough organise of your wardrobe, you never know you may find some clothes that you completely forgot you had. Start organising your clothes into categories, jeans, trousers , jumpers, dresses etc. Perhaps lay them out on your bed and you will begin to gather so many outfit ideas just from seeing your clothes laid out. I always find having an organised wardrobe makes it so much easier to chose and put together outfits.  I think people are so quick to purchase new items they forget to look at what they already have.

3. Follow Designer brand on social media

this may seam like a bit of an odd one, however, this is a great tip on finding new trends. Usually new trends emerge from the designer brands and work their way down to the high street. So if you are looking at the newest pieces this may give you some inspiration for outfit ideas before they actually become trends. I do hope you understand what i mean by this, but if you follow brands that you already love and know you love their styles its a great way to inspire your style.

4. Begin to step out of your comfort zone

If you are truly wanting to wear something that you aren't so sure about, maybe take it step by step and little at a time. For example, maybe wear one piece that makes you feel a little bit scared and worried about what people think and pair it with items that you feel incredibly comfortable in and what you would usually wear. Then, as time goes on you can begin to build on this. You may find you get people staring or looking at you, but at first of course you will notice because you may not be feeling entirely comfortable in yourself. but as time goes on and you step out of your comfort zone more and more, you will gradually start to realise that most likely people are only staring because they think you look great.

If there is anything I have learnt along my journey of finding my own personal style, is to step out of your comfort zone. The first time is so hard because you wish you could just go home and change, but the more you do it the more you will surprise yourself and it will become comfortable for you.

I really hope you enjoyed this post and I do hope it helps you on your style journey, see you next time..
