My Top Tips on finding your Own Personal Style...

22 Sept 2019

Hello everyone,

Today I thought I would share with you my tips on how to find your personal style. I have always said that I wanted my blog and youtube to help people and for this post to help just one person would be amazing. I would say that it's only from the past couple of years that I have truly felt comfortable in wearing whatever the hell I want.

When I was at school, even sixth form, I found myself always wearing similar things to my friends and never really wearing anything that was different to my friends. I would say my style was pretty normal and was generally jeans and a nice top most days. Don't get me wrong there is nothing wrong with that, but since blogging and using Instagram, my style has changed so much. Whilst I was at school, I always felt like I was conscious about what I was wearing, I would put on an outfit and think, oooh I like it, but what would other people think, what if other people think I look stupid? But now, about 98% of outfits I put on, I like to think I feel pretty confident and could not give a sh*** what other people think I look like...

So How did I manage to find my personal style and feel confident in what I choose to wear?

1. Get Inspiration

If it wasn't for following fashion influencers on Instagram, following blogs and watching YouTube videos, I truly believe that I would not have been as confident in what I choose to wear. Since I was 15, i started my blog and started following fashion through Instagram and Youtube. Now, social media can often be such a negative space and everyone always says how negative Instagram can be, however,  I have managed to use it to my advantage and use photos on Instagram as my fashion Inspiration. Instagram, Pinterest and YouTube are some of the main places on the internet where I get my inspiration from and I find creating boards on Instagram and Pinterest is a great idea and always helps me find ideas for outfits...

2. Make Fashion Inspiration boards

Now your probably thinking, bloody hell Crist I don't have the time to get creative with me cutting and sticking skills, not to worry because you can bookmark photos on Instagram and save them to folders and use this as a source of Inspiration for your style and outfit ideas. I also have created a board on Pinterest, currently with Autumn outfit inspo and I spend maybe an hour a week searching through Pinterest for outfit inspiration and creating my own little board. You can take a look at my Pins here if you are interested in seeing my current outfit inspo...

This is also an example of one of my Autumn fashion saved folders on Insta

I find making these inspiration boards and using Instagram has really opened up my eyes to how you can style clothes. I get ideas from here that I would have never have thought of before, for example, some styles and ideas I see on Instagram, often my friends or family may think, hmmm I mean thats not my cup of tea, but the more you search through and use social media as inspiration, the more you will begin to feel like you can wear a certain trend and not worry if Susan down the road doesn't like it. Of course I'm not saying to copy an entire Instagram account of outfits, but I get so much inspo from fashion bloggers and influencers.

3. Use what you have already got....

Now this is something I feel we all struggle with when we see fashion influencers on Instagram have what looks like the biggest wardrobes on the planet. I used to look and think, I wish I had as many clothes as her, but now I think, what can I wear that I already have. For example, I follow some amazing fashion accounts and may see an outfit I love, instead of going and purchasing every item in the photos, I will take a look in my wardrobe and see if there is anything I already have that could work. Its crazy to see how you can take old clothing that you thought you probably wouldn't wear again, and turn into a new outfit just because of that inspo you have found online.

4. Feel confident in what you wear

This is 100000% easier said than done, believe me. I think as you try out new trends and begin to find outfits that you love and feel confident in, you will feel so good and not worry about what others are thinking. I often put an outfit on and look in the mirror with a negative mindset and think, oh bugger this looks rubbish and not what I thought it would look like. I then sometimes think, bugger this do you know what it actually looks pretty good and that is just by feeling more positive about your outfit choice. Its so hard to do this but over time you will start to feel so much more confident with your outfit choices. Don't get me wrong i am in now way an expert what so ever, but I do feel like i have come such a long way with my fashion journey and Im loving where I have ended up with it for the time being...

If you have any questions, I would loveeee to help you out, so please leave a comment or drop me a message on Instagram...

  1. I really like all of these outfits! Your glittery makeup in the last look is wonderful and I enjoy how it matches your shoes. I'm really liking the striped off-the-shoulder top in the second look and the gingham dress in the first outfit is adorable.microdermabrasion facial machine
